Facebook/Myspace

I am a bit of a facebook addict. I know it's not the worst of things but it is easy to spend long amounts of time on it, time that probably should have been used doing other things. The link at the bottom to to a report about lose of productivity in the workplace due to facebook.

I think there is pro's and con's to facebook, myspace, bebo, etc. It is easy to waste a lot of time on them. But if you do use them sensibly its a great way to keep in contact with people.

Heather Mills

People have strong opinions about Heather Mills, usually bad. I don't understand why this is. I don't particularly like her but I definitely don't hate her. She hasn't done anything that deserves the press see gets. Shes not even referred to by her name any more, her name is "Lady Mucca" in the papers.
The bad press started when it was claimed she was a high class hooker. If this is true she still doesn't deserve what is written about her.
Does anyone know what it is shes done that makes her so hated?

This is Heather Mills official website.

Page 3

Oxford Union recently debated whether page 3 was acceptable anymore. The debate include journalists on both sides, and Page girls obviously on the team for, page 3. The result was in favour of page 3, 230 for and 129 against.

I agree with the results. I think page three is harmless its not really porn and i do not believe it is degrading to women. I'm sure none of the girls doing it don't either because they wouldn't continue. My only concern with page 3 is all those girls who aspire to be one, and put themselves in danger with dangerous people pretending to be a photographer.
This link, is to an article by a journalist present at the debate.

Betrayal

Betrayal is something that everyone will experience in there lives, whether its betrayal by a partner, a friend or a parent its something that is part of life.

What type of betrayal is the worst is down to the individual. When you about betrayal people usually think of cheating by a partner. This is probably because its so personal.

I think betrayal is part of life. Its how you deal with something along these lines that helps to make the person you are.

Its not right to betray a person but their will always be people who will.

This site deals with the effects of betrayal, and how to cope.

Bullying

I don't think bullying should be tolerated at all. From what I saw of bullying in schools, I defiantly think there is still a big problem. I don't think enough is done in schools to prevent it.

Its not just a problem in school its also a issue in the workplace. I think any type of bullying is completely wrong. Some people describe bullying as character building, i think it could have that effort on some people, but for most it must just destroy there confidence.

This website includes advice for children and adults experiencing work.

Suicide

When people discuss suicide you often hear the comment, it is the cowards way out. I completely disagree with this. How could killing yourself be a easy thing to do? To be in a situation where you believe your only option is to die is awful, I don't no how anyone could criticise them. It must be bad for the family and friends left behind. So in this way I suppose it could be described a a selfish act. But you have to keep in mind that the person wasn't well.

A recent example of a person committing suicide is Mark Speight, A children's TV presenter who killed himself following the death of his girlfriend. This story is extremely sad and highlights the the issue of suicide.

This is a link to an article about Mark Speights death.

http://r3615.blogspot.com/2008/04/swearing.html

This is in response to Rachel Summers blog on swearing. I agree that unnecessary swearing is annoying and its not good to swear around children. But I don't think swearing is a particulary bad thing some people do swear a lot, but it may just be the way they speak. It might not be said with any anger or malice and I think that makes a big difference. I personally don't swear much and if I had children I would avoid swearing around them, but if they did hear me say the odd swear word I wouldn't be to bothered.

Reality TV

Has reality TV gone to far? I think the reality TV show 'There's something about Miriam" proves that they have. This show was about a group of men competing for the affection of Miriam who they didn't know was a transsexual. The programmes aim was obviously to humiliate the men on it. There was no genuine aim to find love for Miriam.
I definitely think Reality TV does go to far now, There are shows I watch, but I wouldn't feel comfortable watching " there's something about Miriam"

This link to the BBC News website lists, other reality TV shows that have shocked people.

Kate Moss

Why for some people, doing bad things can have good results? This is the case for some celebrity's. Kate Moss is the biggest example of this. In 2005 pictures were published of her snorting cocaine, This for most people would be the end of there career at least. Never mind there family life and keeping there children.

The opposite happened for Kate Moss her career seemed to be rejuvenated by the story. After losing a couple of contracts to start with with, she went on to gain loads more some even while she was still being questioned by the police.

How can this be fair?

Its bad that with all the effort that's been put into to prevent littering, there is still a problem with it. I agree that the problem with littering is down lazy people, who cant be bothered to walk a few steps to a bin and people thinking that the rules don't apply to them.

http://beingbadwithbecky.blogspot.com/2008/04/binge-drinking.html

I agree that the affects of drinking especially binge drinking can be bad. But some people can drink quite a bit and still be in control of themselves, most people on a night out drinking will probably exceed the recommended units.

I think its down to knowing your own limit. As long as its not affecting your health, putting yourself in danger, or ruining your relationships with other people, then drinking can be enjoyable. Some of my funniest memories are of drinking with my friends.

The Media

The media is a powerful force in society nowadays. Its been said that Rupert Murdoch is as important in Britain, as the Government. He famously claimed to be behind the first success in Labours election to head of government. This was by using his resources such as, 'The Sun'.

I think though that the media has to much power. An example of this is the paparazzi who are allowed to stalk and harass celebrity's simply to get a photo of them. Which is often just them going to the shops or out on a night out in town. I know celebrity's probably do ask to be followed, especially when they've go to something to promote.

But for the celebrity's who don't use the paparazzi to promote themselves its a complete invasion of privacy. The paparazzi should then be treated like anybody else who decides to stalk somebody.

Infidelity

I was looking on the Internet at something to write a blog about when I came across this website.

Its set up for people to name and shame there partners if they have cheated. You can also name anyone who has been rubbish to you in general. The cost of this service is only £5. Then the picture of your ex or nasty person will be on there for a year.

I think this site is wrong, it gives anyone the opportunity ruin somebody's life. And how can u tell whether the person displayed is actually, the one in the wrong.

Jeremy Kyle

This blog is not just about Jeremy Kyle but all these shows that exploit people for so called entertainment. I know that the people who join the shows ring up there selves to go on, but they ring up wanting help so are probably vulnerable. So how does Jeremy Kyle and Trisha help these people. They put them on a stage in front of a audience and asks them the most intimate questions which then gets broadcast to the nation. I do not understand how this can help people solve there issues. I don't mind programmes like Jerry Springer because it doesn't now pretend to be trying to help the people on the show. I just don't like the arrogance in which Jeremy kyle speaks to the guests its not straight talking it is rude and condescending. This link is to the Jeremy Kyle show, it includes catch up videos showing various people talking about their most worrying problems, often this includes children.

Lying

Lying is part of human nature. I don't think it's possible for anyone to avoid lying. It's not always a bad thing though. Obviously lies can be wrong and usually its something you would associate as a bad act. But white lies or lies to prevent hurting some body's feelings I don't see a problem with. Why I think lying can be bad is it may hurt somebody, but if all it takes to prevent hurting a persons feelings is to say a little lie then I think it can be selfish not to. If what prevents you, is your own morals then its putting your feelings before the other person.

The link below is to a site of quotes about lies from famous people.

The Death Penalty

This picture is a scene from Deadman Walking. A famous film based on a true story about one experience of capital punishment. The laws regarding the death penalty are changing in America. You would think that in a civilised society that capital punishment would be on its way out. Elisabeth Semel, a death penalty's specialist said the intention of the new proposed regulation was, "To make it more difficult for people who have been sentenced to death in state courts, including those sentenced without adequate representation and resources, to avoid being executed." If this is the case then it is basically killing people without giving the the proper opportunity to defend themselves which sounds like a crime to me. Murder is a crime it is immoral whoever is doing the killing. how can the right punishment a person for murder or rape, or what ever other crime has been committed by murdering them. I may be oversimplifying it but to me it doesn't make sense. 123 innocent people have been sentenced to death, who is getting punished for there murders and what punishment should they get?

This is a link to a website that disscusses the pro's and con's of the death penalty.

Tattoos

Tattoos have a history going back 5ooo years. they can be seen in the history of every culture around the world. There were for many reasons, tribal, a representation of there status and sometimes it was purely decorative.

This is a picture of a Hawaiian female hula dancer. Tradition Hawaiian tattoo art was known as 'kakau'. They were sometimes done to guard peoples health as well as decorative reasons. There are many examples of tattoos dating back thousands of years all over the world. Its not a new trend, its just become more popular. Even though your less likely to see tattoos nowadays for any other reason then decorative. Its no difference to why many peoples wore tattoos when they first started.I don't have any tattoos myself. Only because I couldn't pull them off. Also I would probably pick something really stupid as well that I would regret later on. Many people can get tattoos they might regret. My friend has a tattoo saying mum on his bum. That could be something he might regret. But really there's nothing wrong with tattoos. As long as you go somewhere that's licenced then I cant see the problem.

Below is a link to website with the history of tattoos from around the world.
